“I was born in Chicago and raised for the most part in Echo Park and south county, Los Angeles.  I was an LA city college kid, earning an AA with a lot of self-instruction, and I then attended the Otis Art Institute at Los Angeles and the Art Students' League of New York.  

“I began my commercial career in Honolulu, HI, designing and illustrating posters and t-shirt designs, including the first Diamond Head Crater Festival. I apprenticed in the studio of Keith Ward (1917-2001) in Palm Springs, CA, and there, also painted my first of many murals - this in the home of the twice Oscar-nominated Ms. Gloria Swanson. From there I traveled to Puerto Vajarta, Mexico, where I painted daily en plein air for six months in almost complete isolation on the coast. I came back to California with brown/red skin, sea salt-frizzed hair, and a large roll of canvases. 

“In 2001, I returned to Hawaii and devoted my life to drawing, painting, and teaching. I've hosted inclusive plein air painting and drawing workshops in Prague, Berlin, and in Hawai'i. I've had seven one-man shows, helping me to become one of the most collected artists in the islands. In 2010 and 2011, I created the commemorative Merrie Monarch Festival paintings, which were published as posters by the Hawai'i Visitors Bureau. 

“I currently live with my family in Hawai'i and Europe.”
