In the Hawaiian language, 'Mauka' means 'toward the mountains.' In this original woodblock print inspired by a Sean Davey photograph, Kean depicts a sea and landscape from the North Shore of Oahu. Mount Ka'ala (the highest mountain on Oahu) has a strong presence in this piece and is balanced with an unridden, breaking wave in the foreground. This particular view can be seen from the vicinity of 'Ehukai Beach Park on the North Shore.
