David “Kawika” Maes Gallegos was born in Colorado. His family is American and has been for generations, in all its branches, direct and collateral. On David’s Maternal branch, his Great Grandfather fought in the Civil War. In 1862, Lincoln signed the Morrill Land Grant Act. David’s Great Grandfather Archuleta received 250 acres near Durango, Colorado and mined it for gold and silver.
